Spring grass, gassy horse that looks like a whale and farts like he's eaten a bean factory...

Currently debtating daytime stabling and grazing muzzle as despiste grazing with sheep to help keep the grass down Beastie looks like a baloon, however kneck and hindquarters not looking like hes fat, just a barrel full of gas.

Any recommended supplements that can counter the gas?

I have a degree in gas and bloat, as well as financial ruin, utter exhaustion and four years of worry which is on going.

My tips are hydrate the horse. Don't let them gorge on anything at all, trickle feed little and often. Equine 74, Colikare, fennel seeds and plenty of well chopped garden mint. Exercise more than once a day. I've found walk and trot on the lunge, bring the circle in gently to bend the horse and then change the rein and as she bends on the changed rein we get farts. I repeat that method a few times and it is surprising how much farting she does, must be the flexing/bending.

The last time the horse was in hospital the parting words of the vet that cared for her was - 'never let this horse get full, always keep it slightly hungry'.

We did have a colic 3 weeks ago despite being on a bare track and only having 4 hours out of 24 grazing/searching for grass so now with the sun and rain flushing the grazing she is banned from grass.

Oh AA, bless you it sounds like you and yours have a right time of it with bloat, ben is thankfully not seemingly suceptible to the worst of this condition (so far). He has always had it to some extent but this year there are less horses in the field and alothough there are lots of sheep there is just such a big flush of grass, I am thinking I will try the additives you have suggested for a week and if that doesn't help to the extent I hope, a mask for the 8 hrs I am working or stabling during the day.... Sadly the field we used last year is full of the shetties and welshes so no big ones can go in and the other field, well, whilst there seems to be less grass they are feeding hard feed 2 x a day which isn't right for ben. Fingers crossed for the supplements, if not it's time out via the mask or stable methinks!

Really greatful for all your tips guys thank you :)
