Yesterday I noticed that my mares grass glands were up. Have never noticed this before in the 10 odd years I've owned her.
This may be a silly statement but she living out, has no grass in the field and her round bale has run out (due to put a new one in at the weekend, so for now she's just coming in for a Haynet am and pm, this is fine as she's a chunk anyway)
it caused he no pain, she still eating and drinking and is fine in herself. Went for a hack and it had gone down by the time we got back.
They were up again this morning, and in the time it took her to eat her Haynet it had near enough gone back down.
This evening it was up again, and she also has a lump on her cheek, the same side as the inflamed grass gland.
Any thoughts as to what this could be?
Will be ringing the vet in the morning regardless, but wondered if anyone had any ideas.

When I first noticed yesterday.

the lump is hard and 'attached'

it probably just is grass glands - the grass is growing well at the moment due to mild temps, rain and sun combo. Its growing the fastest I have seen it this year so whilst it may seem her field is bare there is probably lots of shoots coming through which she is nibbling off PDQ. The test would be to keep her off any grass for a good few hours to see if they go down.

Not easy to tell from photo. If they go down when she's been in for a while then I'd say definitely grass. If they don't there could be a problem with teeth?

They do go down when she's been in for a while. Although the lump on her cheek is new this evening.
She had her teeth done last month, so although possible, I'd be inclined to think unlikely. She's happily munching her hay and is fine when ridden.
Most probably nothing to worry about, but dont like to see new lumps and bumps on the old girl.

My girl has had a lump on her cheek this week also, I can only think it's because she's no longer wearing her muzzle? Swelling went down when she'd been in a few hours so like you, didn't think it was teeth related.
