Can anyone help me with this as i dont know much about it....

I have a paddock with a lot of grass in it. had been previously trashed, so not new grass as such, long, weedy, lots of docks which i am trying to take out. also have a bit of a bare on which they are currently using. one of the paddocks has shelter, so id like to use it over the winter, but what i want to know is when would it be safe to turn them out on their for longer without the grass affecting them? does the grass lose nutritional value over the winter so it wouldnt matter about the length?

Anyone have any help ? thanks!

This time of year can be almost as bad as spring with a fresh flush of grass, I'd be cautious about turning them out all the time, can you let them use it for a couple of hours a day to start with?

Yeah- they currently go on for about 1 - 2 hours a day at the moment just for a bit of a change out of the mud... and have been sectioning bits off so they can just eat an area off or something....x

Ideally for the grass to stop growing it needs to be below 5 degrees, so still goodness in it until then; You could always muzzle them until its eaten down more. But i wouldn't turn them out on it for more than an hour or so a day without a muzzle.
