Grass in November

I was wondering this. It's very usual for them to be able to eat much grass this time if year but it's growing faster than spring and summer here.

I had assumed it was basically 'filler'. My farmer swears it's really high sugar, I don't see why it would be?

I’m tending to agree with your farmer given the energy the usually calm, donkey like Rocky suddenly had! 🤣🤣

One of mine has lost a ton of weight in the last month. I've gone from planning his winter weight loss regime to researching higher protein feeds.

The other 2 are still fat.

My FB memories confirms the Appy is always bonkers at this time of year. They're still in the summer paddocks and yesterday she was doing laps with baby cob.

She's far faster than him but he's like a tractor on the boggy bits whereas she has a vet history spanning pages. One of them will be very sore today but it absolutely won't be due to the galloping - probably entirely the human's fault because it always is 🙄

I'm putting hay our because there isn't much left in those fields after all the Sept / Oct rain but the winter fields are knee high & a bit too juicy.

Grass still growing.
Not noticed any high jinx though and 💩 is all nice and firm. Weight stable.
I’m giving a small slice of hay per horse a day and they are keen to have it so I’m not convinced there is a huge amount in the grass. But I reckon we have another good couple of weeks before proper hay rations required!

We've got loads of grass as we changed field a couple of weeks ago but they've started to choose to eat hay instead of the grass now so unfortunately I'm not sure there's much in it.

Rocky not eating any hay even when offered. Luckily he’s not getting fatter…..just sillier!

My grass is still growing. One of mine hasn’t had to wear a muzzle all summer on the track but a week on the winter field had my farrier really worried about his feet when he trimmed him so the muzzle has gone on and it isn’t coming off just yet.

Big lad still has sugar brain & continuing to spook at leaves etc so must be something in it - this behaviour is usually contained to 2 week in October when there's the usual flush, then he gets back to normal. My cob is continuing to choose mostly grass picking over hay & poo stinks! And we're still mowing the lawn 😵‍💫
