My colt foal is presently 57 miles away from me as I could get no livery help locally for a mare and foal - the mare is now for sale and I'm hopeful of bringing Ziggy back to surrey area after gelding this year but am finding it really hard to find somewhere with other yearlings - living out. Can anyone help? I am putting feelers around now as will need somewhere around May-time. Thanks lots.

Where are you in Surrey. I'm at a yard in Warlingham who do all year turn out. Big fields with haylege in the winter. They don't have loads of youngsters but a couple of this years foals who will be out either with a bunch of geldings or on their own. I'll get the number if you're interested.

Shame you are so far away in Surrey, I have a two yr old gelding who would love a play mate. I think grass livery yards aren't normally advertised overly much, I'd just drive round and talk to as many people as possible, that's what i did when I found mine.

A friend of mine has the same problem with her youngster who is 2 1/2 and she has been kicked that many times and injured she would like to find some where new for her, she is on a yard about 10 miles from mine so ours is too far away for her. She went to see somewhere recently that was totally unsuitable. There seems to be no where else for him in the company of other youngsters so she has resorted keeping him just with his friend who is a much older mare and the two get on fine.

I am based between Reading and Basingstoke and run a small stud and have plenty of youngsters to turn out with but this is not just a field/grass livery as such. They are turned out but are all handled daily and fields they are in are poo picked daily so they always have quite a bit of attention.
It's not cheap keeping youngstock but PM me if you want any details.
Good luck

I know it is proving difficult that is why I ended up having to send the mare and foal away to Oxford which is 57 miles away from me and it's costing a fortune. The mare is now for sale and I hope I can afford to keep going till Ziggy is bigger - his 1st birthday is today lol!

That's an idea the last thing I want is for him to come back from Oxford after gelding and being kicked when he's been so safe there. I would consider older company more steady I guess. Thanks for the tip!
