Hi, How much do you charge / pay for grass livery and is your horse checked by th YO or yourself on a daily basis? I have been approached for grass livery over the winter but I am not sure it is worth it for the money I would charge really. I do have another horse I want to winter out but if the snowy weather come it will of course have to come in and then this causes more problems too!! Just wondered what other people did. :):)

I have five on grass livery and they will be out all the time even in the snow, they will be given hay.
I pay £10 per horse a week, we do everything for them, go and do them twice a day. Yard owner has her horse out too so i'm sure if there was an issue she'd let us know, but we do it all. They maintain water and electric on the fences. We also have a big barn to bring them in for rug changes and grooming in therain and a barn for out feed room and store room, we get a great deal, they are also building a school which we can use free of charge.

£10 per week, 2 big barns for shelter and option of stable at £2.50 per week.
Grass schooling area for summer. Automatic water in fields and electric and water on yard. Large bales of hay in field during winter, £20 a bale Cost split between owners.

Those getting grass livery for £10 per week are very lucky. I'm in the SE and wouldn't want the hassle of people on my land for £10 per week tbh. The other thing is that you will always get the call of ' I can't make it tonight so could you just XZY for me'. Not always nice going outside in a howling gale and rain to tend someone else's horse when you're cosy inside.

In my opinion if its not financially beneficial its not worth doing.

I have two on grass livery at the moment and pay £15 per horse. They all have to share one paddock (three in total in there) and no-one checks on them, everything is completely your own responsibility. Water has to be filled with a hose pipe from main yard. Electric must be right round the field and supplied and managed yourself.

I don't do @I can't make it tonight', I always get down twice a day to do my babies, if there was some major issue then my husband or mum would go down for me, but I'd never ask the YO to check them. When it was snowing last year and physically couldn't drive to the yard as roads so bad, i got as far as i could then walked the rest of the way, extreme some might say but unless i see my horses then i'll not settle. When mum has done them in the past i've had her call me to let me know how they are.

£10 I know we are really lucky..others in the area would pay the same but have nothing other than a field, they'd have to bring the water from home etc....
Couldn't afford to have 5 on anymore a month.

Im also paying £10 a week grass livery, we check them every day, but the farmer does as well as they are out with his cows & calves. To be honest, for him, its money for nothing, as they share all their grazing, so its no more work than having his cows there, infact in his words, its better for him as it means his cows get an extra check over as well.

I pay £150 a month for my 2 1/2yr old to be on grass livery. This includes his hard feed once a day, 2 checks morning and evening, hay in the winter and rug changes. I am in the South. The only extras are worming, vets bills and farrier.

I pop down to the field and see him a couple of times a week and i catch him in one day on the weekend. We also have access to a 2 mile gallop round the yard, lunge pen, outdoor floodlit arena with mirrors which is all included in the price. They will also catch him in for me (FOC) when i am coming down.

.

This is what I call Full Pasture Board and is basically what my Boarders get for about 170 a month.

For one or two, it probably isn't, to be fair. Mine are on 14 acres and the income is around £550- £600 per month for the land and yard. Hay extra. YO doesn't actively get involved with day to day care.
