I am now in a position to order grass mats for all my gateways, and there seems to be quite a variation in price. Has anyone bought any of the cheaper ones and had them down a few years, as I am wondering if they are like rubber stable mats in that cheap isn't always economical.

The silence is deafening :)

I bought some earleir this year at a show and managed to knock them down from £25 to £20, but they are on ebay from £15 with a few different sellers, and I'm hoping that someone has bought these and had them down for a good while to see if they stand the test of time.

I am interested in this too. I have some expensive Fieldguard mats which are very good, long lasting and do the job. I would like to add some more next year and wonder how cheaper mats compare.

I bought some cheapies around five years ago to use in my field gateway. They have worked really well, although there is very little vehicular traffic over them, just people and neddies. We laid them in summer, making sure they went onto a level surface, then sprinkled grass seed on them. It's best to try and "sink" them about an inch below the surrounding ground so the horses don 't trip over the edges.

My husband works in the landscaping industry so comes across tings like this quite often. Frequently lots of comapnies will be selling the same mats (same with stable mats s well) but for a huge variation in prices and unless you are looking for a specific brand, the generic ones are pretty much all the same as they are cheaply manufactured (doesn't mean the quality is bad!) but this is what makes them cheaper. They all do the same job but soem places will just bump the price up beacuse it makes them look like a better quality product. Compare carefully as you may find you are comparing the same thing!
