Grass nuts

Am thinking of adding these to my mare Diet due to lack of grass currently.

I already feed calm & condition at full ratio, plus linseed and MSM.

Do we think it's best to add these into her feed or offer in a separate bucket?

She is a bit of a fuss pot with feed and can be over faced with mountains of hay and big feeds.

Just wondered how most people feed these?
 
I use soaked hay cobs as a base to put supplements in, so I never really feed more than a stubbs scoop (soaked) at a time. But it is something my mare eats without a problem, even if she is being fussy about her hay.

As it is a hay replacer, I would offer the grass nuts separately, along side her "meal" rather than in the same bucket.
 
I've started feeding soaked grass nuts as they are very economical compared to fast fibre or similar (25kg £9.45)
 
I feed soaked grass nuts as a carrier for Thunderbrook base mix. Mine love it. You do need to soak it though. It soaks up an enormous amount of water. I don't give much either. a 20kg bag last my 2 horses about 5 weeks on 2 feeds a day.
 
Everything gets fed them here. I soak an enormous tub trug and then dish this out. They got really ratty in past winters because of lack of grass and now they don't.

Mine too gets them in equal proportions with her beet pulp (minus the chaff, she can't manage any long fibre at all) and does very well for 35. I guess you could feed them dry but as with any pellets, they need chop or other fibre to prevent horse bolting them.

Mine is only 34! he gets loose droppings without some chaff, but he only really likes the Halleys Just Grass, I think because its much softer than Readigrass or other unmolassed chaffs. For the OP, I would probably drop the chaff too, but still feed with SB, or mixed with her bucket feed.
 
I would make sure that soaked grassnuts are fed with chaff. Our old lady had a couple of choke episodes, we decided that it was because she was not chewing the soaked grassnuts, even though there was some chaff mixed in. We increased the chaff (Graze-on) and she was fine.
 
Where do you get your and what price do you pay? Graze-On at Wynnstay are now nearly £8 for 20kg, is that the best around (I use so many, every 50p a bag saving is worth while)?
 
£8 for 20kg... I could dream! I paid about 16€ for 20kg last time I bought grass nuts, and that was with a 2 hour round trip to buy them too!

My nearest supplier is now in Switzerland, and charges 19CHF (about £12.75) for 10kg.
