Can any one tell me more about these? Heard good for keeping weight on ( looking to feed in winter) also that they need to be soaked so do I use these instead of sugarbeet & does it have the same long heating slow release as the beet? As worried to have two lots of soaked feed.

You need to check the label as some are very high protein - I used them for my ancient pony as a part of his complete diet replacer (he had lost most of his teeth and could no longer eat hay). I used a combination of grass nuts (20%), high fibre nuts (35%) chaff (10%) and sugar beet (35%) - all soaked - as it was increased forage he needed rather than any concentrate feed. If you are going for the high protein ones they are like spring grass in a bag so bear that in mind if you have any worries about laminitis.

I have found micronised linseed to be very good at keeping weight on in winter.

they saved my oldies life - I tried everything to keep his weight on when he lost his teeth, they are high in energy (spring grass all year) but if your horse doesn't have any ill effects from spring grass (lami fizziness etc) then go for it.

I am using grass nuts and speedi beet soaked together. I also use micronised linseed and sure grow as my horse is a growing two year old. She was under fed when I got her and looks amazing now. I can recommend emerald green grass nuts made in Lincolnshire.
