Hey,
thanks for reading.
We have 2xAndalusians and a Dartmoor Hill who is basically a Shetland. They are currently being rotated between some fields with shortish grass while I wait for our smaller field to be fenced. They are in in the day and out at night.

The smaller field is about 2 acres. The grass is long and has seed heads on it. I was thinking to let them graze it a couple of hours at a time starting in a smaller patch and strip grazing out from there. I’ve read that long grass is better for fibre and lower in sugar, although it’s not their preference.

question: should I be trying to top off the seed heads before they go out on it? My concern is it will take a while for the grass to dry out after a clip and I’d like to be able to start using it soon.
Thank you

Start small and when eaten down move the fence no more than 18" a day. When they have eaten a decent amount put a back fence up to allow regrowth. I used this method for years, it was good for the field and the ponies.
