Hi all..

Greedy pony unseated my nephew today by sticking her head down and munching on grass..we have only had her a month and she is a gem he hacked out with me today for the first time on his own without someone walking along he managed several times to pull her back up untill just before the end of the ride she snatched down and unseated him..what is the best type of grass reins the strap along neck thats fits to bridle or the ones which attach to either side of bit? The mare is really good so dont want to upset her just want to stop her thinking of her belly :)

You could experiment with some baling twine to see which grass reins are best for the pony, either by attaching to the headpiece or feeding through the browband to the bit. You'd then know which ones to buy.

Can remember being advised not to have grass reins attached like side reins for lunging. Think it was either something to do with the pony falling over or child being tangled in them but thought I'd pass it on

My daughter's pony hated any sort of grass reins and our solution was to use a Fulmer snaffle and D had to learn to react to the pony as soon as pony veered towards anything green.

I hope your nephew is still keen to ride and is OK after his tumble.

We never got on with the daisy rein - it used to slip down the side of the pony's neck. We used to use grass reins from the bit to the D's or the girth straps if no D's. Never had a problem with pony falling or child getting tangled and child certainly fell off more than once!
