Does any one use these My friend has a little pony for her 5 year old daughter but the pony is a devil for putting head down to eat grass. I have not seen these for years and cant remember how you fit them, also friend is concerned they are cruel! I think they would be a good idea. What do you think? any reminders how to fit them/ I seem to remember them being made of bits of baling string?

I just gave one away to a charity last week - a nice leather one that I bought for my daughter's first pony known as Bobby the B*****d! If kids didn't fly over his head, he dropped a shoulder and sent them out the side door. The grass rein was a godsend - highly recommend it for hacking and competitions.
As my daughter is now almost 22 and she had Bobby when she was 7, thought it was probably time to get rid!

Years since I used them, but seem to remember that they went from the bit up through the browband loop back to the D's on the saddle? I do remember though a crupper was often needed to stop the saddle being pulled forward!!!!!

Bit to D's on saddle I think. Used them only once... as a (small, novice) adult on a shire! Shouldn't be cruel unless horse trips/slips... they aren't a constant pressure like a contact, only come into play for BIG stretches.

Almost any material, with clips at either end.
