Poor Henry has been licking his paws recently, but we thought it was nettles as he's been at all of them, and was showing no lameness or reluctance to have them touched. However tonight I examined them closely and pulled a good 3/4 inch long grass seed out of one of his back paws:(

The seed has come out complete, and the wound it has left, although sore, seems clean, with no discharge or strong smell, so I've bathed it in salt water and will be keeping a close eye on it over the next few days to make sure it's healing. I'll probably boot him up to make sure it stays clean on walks too while there's an open wound there. Henry was a star throughout the whole process of course, even though it must have been uncomfortable - he is such a gentle, trusting dog with these things.

Do keep an eye on their paws at this time of year! Of course if Henry shows any signs of discomfort or slow healing I'll pop him to the vet, but I think we've been lucky this time - poor boy. I thought I was pretty good at checking him but I obviously missed this one:(

I hope he heals quickly, it can be so easy to miss such things, I certainly doesn't have a habit of going over mine with magnifying glass. :o The closest I come to that, is probably to polish my glasses.
