As the owner of a spaniel he is forever getting abscesses between his toes, hes regularly checked, trimmed and we avoid places like it but it still happens!

Usually they go away on their own if I soak in salt water and apply a antibiotic cream. The vet said sometimes its more of a allergic reaction to something hes touched, walked on etc rather than having something in there.

Hes had a abscess on in between his right toe. The vet gave him 2 weeks of antibiotics (thinking it was a allergic reaction) but it flared up again.. It popped and has a hole on the abscess, tried using tweezers as thought I saw something but no luck. Hes very good, sits very still bless him. The vet yesterday has said to poultice it and if no better in a week come back, they'll sedate and open it up but 9/10 they struggle to find anything.

I have warm poulticed it with some veterinary grade manuka honey bandage to help draw it out.

Does anyone elses dog suffer with these?

One of my GSDs has had a couple of thorns in her pads. I poultice with magnesium sulphate paste which is great for drawing foreign bodies out even when there is no visible entry mark or sign of them.

You mentioned he is trimmed. Could it be furunculosis (ingrown hair?).

I trimmed his feet after the abscess, so don't think so..

Hes had it poulticed now for 5 days, took it off last night. Nothing came out or came to the skin.. swelling gone, can barely see it now. Guessing it will be a vet visit for sedation and having it cut open if it comes back up!

Hot compresses. Keep the hole open and draining. If something is in there it will come out. Sometimes they need lancing by the vet to create a big enough drainage hole. They try and heal really quickly, but you have to keep any scab off the top and keep the hole open until it heals from the inside out.
