Grass shortage

Heavens where are you? Far too much of the stuff in southern Scotland, have sheep and lambs in the field, pony on strip grazing and we are considering mowing the pony's patch as it's still not being eaton down!

Address please and I'll send you the cuttings!;)

The recent rain has helped, but not by much. We are weeks behind where we should and the herd are keeping it grazed flat. By now we should be having to section off parts of the fields to stop them getting too fat. As it is, we let them loose in the garden and other areas they'd not normally be let into to graze the grass there.

So we've not had to dust the lanmower off yet, which is a bonus!

Had to move my two biggies a couple of weeks ago to a yard with tonnes of grass. Kept the two littlies where they are as they are fine, just right weight wise and now the other two are out of the field, I may have to start considering fencing off areas if the rains continue. We're Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire-ish.

We have had no rain in the SE since early March! No grass, hay going to be ridiculous price again unless we get some soon, but none forecast for at least another 10 days

We had a few spots in Norfolk this morning, not enough to do any good. If we dont get any soon I am going to have to sell an organ to afford hay this winter!

Absolutely no grass round here: Suffolk. Thankfully my horse is a good doer but we haven't been able to t/o overnight yet as not enough in fields as it is. They were on winter fields until last weekend as not enough grown in summer fields. God forbid this drought continues.

We've had one day's rain here since I turned mine out for the summer at the beginning of April. I'm strip grazing, but where they've been, the grass just isn't growing back.
I'm going to sacrifice my cat to the rain devils.
S :D

I've just put my horse in our garden for an hour - it's that bad! Thankfully our lawnmower is broken so hubby didn't mind a large four legged mower instead!

Good idea! :D I'd do that too except we've only mowed once this month....

No rain for about 6 weeks here. Very hard ground, lots of dust and virtually no growth. Haven't cut our lawn for 3 weeks.

For my two fatties it's perfect - they are going out on a bigger area of the grass they usually do at this time of year and actually losing weight!

In Essex. Moved my horse from where he usually is to another friends as we were short of grazing. The grazing at his new home is really running low after only 3 weeks there. Desperate for rain. The drizzle this morning did nothing more than get rid of the dust.

Think we may need to do a Horse and Hound Forum members rain dance in unison!!

Gosh you can have some of mine!! i have far to much lush, rich grass and desperatly thinking of ways to diminish it asap - my cob is v over weight on the field shes on and is being put on lami watch as from the morning.
Im thinking of asking the farmer if he wants to put his sheep on it for a couple of weeks before my cobs can go back on it!!

Send them up to us. We have had a week of rain and the grass has shot up. Wondering what to do with 10 acres of long grazing that I can't afford to bale this year! My fat horses are living on another field that is eaten down, but still managing to maintain their bellies!

TBH I drove from Manchester to London today, and noticed good grass all the way down in fields that have been obviously fertilized and prepared for hay.
