My mare became a little foot-sore over a week ago, she has always been unshod and it is not uncommon on rough ground, it was only slight and not constant everytime the hoof touched the ground. She saw the farrier a couple of days later for her usual trim and he said she had 'gravel' and some of her hoof was being pushed away at the base.
He has trimmed this off and cur away some of her hoof, told us to keep it clean where possible after riding etc but she is still on and off unsound/footsore I assume where he has cut away the outer wall of her hoof. Its a front so a weight bearing one and she's a big heavy girl.
I'm wondering what to do for her to help her, she walks sound inthe field but is footsore on rough ground in the yard. She trots up slightly lame on that front on the grass. It is not bad but if there is anything I can do to help her I will??
She is fed biotin and we use hoof hardener, what else canI do it will take a while for her outer wall to grow back to support her hoof??
Many thanks for any help.
