Hi, a few days ago my yearling came in with a few grazes on the fronts of his back fetlocks. I think he has been messing about in a big tree branch that is down and caught the fetlocks as he was walking away.
Anyway, as it was only grazed, I cleaned and put cream on. One fetlock was a bit swollen and he is completely sound on it.
His fetlock is still swollen and Im wondering how long will it take for the swelling to go down.
I will get the vet out, but as he is sound I thought I would just let it heal on its own
Any advice please??

Have you been cold hosing?

Other than that, anything directly on a joint I would probably at least phone the vet for advice, especially with a baby.

If it's still swollen after a few days it's almost certainly infected. It's relatively easy to take care of the OUTSIDE of a scrape or graze, gentle cleaning and protection from flies etc (don't over-scrub the area as you can strip away the new skin cells trying to grow). But it's not always so easy to treat the INside of a scrape or graze and your horse may need antibiotics.

Are you absolutely certain that there isn't a tiny puncture would that's gone deeper into the tissues/joint/tendons? That could be a big problem!

Thanks for the replies! It is still swollen so vet out today I think. He is still sound and definitely no puncture wound. Had one with puncture wound before and am really paranoid now!
Thanks
