Yes i do agree with them, its much more cruel to let them get fat and ill or to have to shut them inside all day when all their friends are getting fresh air in the field.

Daisy can't wear one except for very short periods because she has eczema on her face and it aggrevates it but that just my freaky horse. I would happily put it on all year round if I thought it was necessary

I do agree with them if it helps your pony maintain a healthy weight.
Nope.
Yes my lad has it on all the time and he is fine with it (ok maybe he hates it) but other than some very mild rubbing he is ok with it on causes no problems.
I have used mine this year but wouldn't use it in winter.

Also they could end up with lami which isnt good! thats what happened to my YO pony was left in field all summer and left to eat and now has lami and is on major diet!!

lol at the spelling, sometimes computers are more trouble than they are worth

I do agree that grazing muzzles are a better solution than keeping a pony/horse on their own in a tiny bald paddock or stabled 24/7. I do however feel quite cruel putting one on my pony as she really hates it. Mine wear theirs every other night when they are in during the day and If they are out during the day they wear them then too. I use mine from April to October. My vet says the longest they should wear a muzzle for is 36 hours on then 12 hours off.
The shitland wears hers every night and is in during the day.
Hope this helps.

I personally can't stand them.
I have 5 fatties but I just bring myself to use muzzles. Somehow they seem cruel. A bit like sitting with a cream cake in front of you with your mouth taped up!! I know they're used in the animals best interest and I appreciate that but I couldn't use one. I would rather make smaller paddocks and feed soaked hay if necessary which is what I do.

I think theyre a life saver TBH, the newer type not the old plastic bucket kind. Have used one for last 6 years or so on Will'. Yes I do use it in the Autumn up until the grass really dies off and just use it as and when needed depending on how much grass is available. He's in at night so obviously has it off then but the most he'd ever wear it for was about 8 hours.

I think they make horse look like cannibals, but can see their use in certain cases.

Cruel to be kind and all that guff.

How do they lear to drik.... ( sorry this computer is just aout to go whizzig through the widow...... ) hope this makes sese!!

I am just worried that they wot iteract together if they oth have muzzles o..... ( ahrghhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!! Computers!!! )

I don't know they just do SB, to start with had to offer bits of grass thru the hole in the bottom but he got it fairly quicky.

I think your two will still play together even if it's only to take each others muzzles off, they can't access the computer can they?

I agree with them, I have seen some VERY, VERY fat ponies around, and a grazing muzzle would not go a miss for them, that's for sure.

Thanks Stinkbomb, that's the best laugh I've had all night.
Here are some of your missing letters for you to cut and paste!

Yes i agree with them - to me its a matter of life and death for my pony (i know which id choose)

No they are not - i think its crueller to have a obese pony/horse thats at risk from lammi.

Yes my ex Lammi uses one - hes out for about 8 hours max - has about 3 days with it off for short periods.

Both if needed.. obviously if there is a bare paddock i would not put one on him.

I don't like them - at all. If you have no other possible option, then fair enough, but I would exhaust every other option before turning to muzzles again.

I put my boy in a shires a while back thinking I was being kind as he was very overweight. It stopped him from interacting with the other horses properly (he could no longer groom them, so they drifted apart, he couldn't nip them, so he lost his place in the pecking order, etc), it caused horrible sores over his poll, down his cheeks, round his nose, under his chin, on his lips (it WAS the right size, and he is a native, not a think skinned TB), and when he came in he was STARVING (despite the fact extra holes had been put in the base). Most muzzle manufacturers state that if a muzzle is worn 24/7, it is VERY unlikely that the horse will be able to sustain itself - they can not physically get enough through the muzzle to keep them ticking over properly. If you only put it on overnight or during the day, then while it is off the horse will gorge themselves, defeating the purpose of the muzzle. My boy had his on for around 3 weeks. I couldn't put him through anymore, he was getting depressed.

If it suits you and your horse, or if it really is a case of muzzle or SEVERE lami with no other options then fine, go ahead. IMO (which I back up with experience), yes the ARE cruel, therefore if there was any other option, I would take that rather than the muzzle.

Good luck with whatever you decide, I know a lot of people will disagree with me.
