I have just moved to Cambridge and was wondering if anyone can suggest livery yards in the area/ grazing that may be available.

I have no preference for facilities but it does need to be close ish to the city and to have all year round turnout.

I guess it depends where abouts in town you live?

I don't know much about them but I know there are a couple of yards in histon & milton, neither of which are very far from town if you live in the right place.

Try googling them, I'm pretty sure there is one down Cottenham Road in histon but know nothing about the facilities, if they have any space, cost etc.

Gum tree could be another place to try, thats how a friend of mine found her yard, although I guess they are more likely to be private yards that way so it depends what you do want.

Hope that is of some use.

I'm at Chivers, we're full at the moment

Beckbrook is just up the road, Vallin on here keeps her horse there as does malibu_stacey so could be worth a PM

Umm, what else can I think of. I'm not very good I'm afraid.

There is a full livery yard at Fulbourne if that is what you're after.

Think there is a yard in Fen Drayton

Which side/part of the city are you? It makes a big different when you have to get in or out of town. Also, are you looking for DIY/part/full? :)

Thank you for all the different yards. I am living near the station, so places to the south and east of the city may be easier to access.

I am ideally looking for a part/ full livery possibly even just grazing as my oony is used to living out all year.

I'm near the station too :) I don't think there is much down that way, hence me being on the north of the city, but I'm happy to be corrected. I could move in with you if you find somewhere. lol

Where do you work? If out of town then you could look on the way to work, if you're in the city then that doesn't help much

have just copied this from another post I replied to on the same subject
Am cr@p at directions so thes may be in the wrong part of cambs!
Beckbrook EC in girton
Chivers in Histon
Unwins in Impington
Lordsbridge near granchester (?)
Manor Farm near Huntindon
Haggis Farm of the m11 (?)
Keeble Cottage in Oakington/Longstanton

There are also loads listed on here, http://www.cambridge-horse.com/livery.html some of which I also know personally but they're full livery

Also Highgate Country Store in Willingham has quite a few places advertised at the moment (was there today) one of which looks really nice but I *think* it's only full livery. French's on huntingdon road also always have ads up

PM me if you want more details on any of the above and I'll try and help

Thank you for the info about different yards. I have been on cambridge yards website which was really helpful. I think I may contact the ones in the north of the city.

Unfotunately I work near thetford - although I may look at some yards going out towards newmarket.

How is the hacking around the north of the city?

Well Chivers, where I am, is awful. But like I said we're full so you won't have to worry too much about that.

Histon is nice though and you can go for miles on the bridle path which runs along side the guided busway :)

No worries. The hacking is ok, but there is little to none that doesn't involve at least some road work. If you're working in thetford and hacking is really important to you I'd look at yard round there as the hacking will be much better in terms of off road. But if you have transport (unlike me and jesstickle *sigh* :p ) you can always box to places.

Oh there's also Frolic Farm out at Lode which is supposed to be very nice, but again pretty sure it's DIY. Though the hacking there is supposed to be really good.

From vallins post
Manor farm is near st ives so closer to the OP but lots of people have left recently and its reputation isnt great round here.
I thought haggis was at drydrayton so off the A14 between cambs and barhill??? I know of another two in dry drayton as well if you are willing to go that far.
Theres loads if you are willing to travel out to longstanton, swavesey, fendrayton way or cottenham way. I think theres one in waterbeach. Theres also a basic yard near the guided bus cant remember what village its near though but could look it up for you if your intrested?
Just thought theres horses just off the road in fen dittion and someone I know found a field to rent there away from the road to.

Haggis is near Barton, of the M11. Is quite expensive for what you get if I remember correctly.
Does Milton College do livery?

My friend has a yard in Lode. I am more than happy to give you his details. I am trying to think of yards Thetford way - hacking there is very good as you have the forest. What sort of facilites are you after? I am going to see my cousin this evening and her parents have a yard a theirs and that is Thetford direction. Shame you are not working more my way as I have a spare stable and paddock and lots of hacking on the farm! It's quite nice to have the occassional bod to go riding with.

Which direction are you? I am just after a field (stable if possible). Anything else is a bonus. Lode would be really good as not too far from home.

Thank you for all your suggestions its really helping

COME AND JOIN US! I am lucky enough to be at a small and fantastic basic livery in Waterbeach £40 per month for DIY at grass (amazing price for the area)! New yard going in before the winter - American barn and flood lit outdoor school, yard will then have part and full livery options although help with diy while out at grass might be possible! 16 acres of fantastic grazing with big well fenced paddocks and large field shelters, its just 4 miles (hacking distance) from college of west anglia who have lots of events and clinics and it is very small and friendly, YO is amazing - Even have our own hay grown on site which they sell for £2 a bale or £6 per week adlib in winter and YO will hay and feed in the mornings or you ;) Plus we have the occasional yard outing. I am soooooo Lucky have been to alot of yard in my time this one is the best ever plus on the same road i live on. It is isolated but makes for excellent safe hacking even on the roads, If not for you try http://www.fulbournlivery.co.uk/livery-options.html which is about 6 miles from you but quite expensive. PM if you need details of my yard.:D

This is the other yard in waterbeach another poster mentioned, its only about 2 miles from mine and look at the price difference  plus one of the girls at my yard paid out all that money for mare and foal livery as was worried she might not cope herself with the birth and wanted the best for her mare. Mare was not monitored properly foaled at night and membranes were to thick so foal suffocated at birth!!!

Having said that we can all have a bad experiences no matter how good the yard and these things do happen and i would not tell people not to go there that’s your choice just wanted to share another’s experience.

Yes, yes you must! Though it might have to wait until next summer now as I'm back at uni as of weds ;) and by that point, you'll have transport and we can go to the beach ;) :D Though having said that, I'm always up for the pub! And if anyone is going to Olympia malibu_stacy and I will be there on Kur night so could meet up then.

Wow loads of Cambridge peeps, we have a space on our yard which is 5 miles North of Cambridge, PM if you want more details.
If your working near Thetford you may want to look there, we regularly box up there to hack in the forest.
