Does anyone know where you can get one of the soft grazing masks made of webbing?I have tried one with the rubber end but the horse does not like it and headshakes and paws the ground.He is only on short grass.I have looked on Ebay but most of them have the rubber or plastic nose piece.I believe there is one on the market made of webbing strips.Any info on make and supplier gratefully received.

the shires muzzles have a rubber base too.

TBH you won't get a muzzle made of 'just webbing'. What would happen when the horse put it's head doen to eat? with no plastic or rubber in the bottom to stabilise it it'd just fold into itself and the horse would have a mouthful of muzzle....

Perhaps try putting the horse in a starvation paddock? Or just ignore the pawing?
 
they all hate them forever, but they do adapt and work it out in the end, they are not going to ever be pleased about it, you need at least a week for a horse to settle to one,,,sometimes sooner.

Our little mare is very nasal and stood sulking for 2 days until she actually worked out she could eat....
 
You have to give the horse time to adjust. My gelding did the snorting/pawing/dragging along the floor/trying to rub off/etc the first night he had his on. The next morning he was sulking and not eating, the third day he was still sulking but attempting to eat, by the fourth day he was just pottering around with it on, he had the knack of eating with it on and seemed quite content.

If your horse is overweight then it is a case of being cruel to be kind. He will get used to it after a few days
 
I think there are some made from webbing but if you have a very determined horse they will brake. How long has yours been wearing it? Mine wore it for about a week (after wearing it for one whole summer and half a summer previous) before he finally got it and started to eat.
 
obviously you know you horse best so i may be wrong but i doubt its the fabric or material he doesnt like!! my pony pawed the ground when she first had her shires muzzle on, because she was throwing a tantrum and confused as to why she couldnt eat - she did this for about 1 week, now 8 months later she wears it 5 days a week with no problems its almost natural for her.

he will do the same with a different type of muzzle IMO. its all about sticking with it and letting them work it out
 
Thanks for that have printed off website looks a little less harsh than some other makes.My horse is recovering from
bronchiolitis so needs to be out as much as possible but limiting the amount he eats.I will try and find a Shires one also
as my local tack shops did not have one to look at.Thanks for all the ideas looks like I will have to give one a try and hope he adapts.
 
The Aerborn ones are better than the Shires one - look identical, but some reason the Aerborn ones rub a lot less than other makes.
