Does anyone use a grazing muzzle on their horse to restrict their grass intake? What make do you use?

I've got a greenguard grazing mask which I've used before, but he managed to get his nose out to one side , strap was through his mouth and had rubbed him and made him sore when I went to get him. Is this a common problem with these or do I just need to make the straps better and get one of those middle of the head straps they seem to come with now? Are other muzzles any better? He's a thin skinned thoroughbred, so hair tends to rub off at the slightest hint of anything touching it...

Have discovered that he is extremely grass sensitive and so I'm trying to find ways of getting him out and moving, while reducing any grass. He's at a livery yard, so I can't just do whatever I want with the ground, so am trying to work with what I've got. I'm looking forward to a fun summer...

I can't see how the greenguard muzzle can possibly be effective. I use a BestFriend muzzle. They come in lots of sizes, make sure you do not order one that is too small. Fix it to a well fitting headcollar. My shettie has worn two out, they last him about 2 years. They can drink very easily and graze through a small hole. He is not the least bit fussed about wearing it. He has adapted a way to eat through it.

My pony seems to get his mouth out of the side of the Greenguard too, even with the proper headcollar with the centre strap. I now use a Shires with no problems apart from a couple of small rub marks. Some people sew fluffy or soft stuff on the parts that may rub.

I've never had any real success with the greenguard, one pony even broke his in half..

I use the shires one all the time. It may rub, as anything can, but arm yorself with some sheepskin and some glue and you should be able to nip that in the bud.

I use shires and havent found the fit to be that great to be honest. I waitied a long time for the order to come in adfter the smaller size was too small and it had been highly reccommeded.

I have a heavy weight cob and was desparate to get him kitted out after a bout of colic. The muzzle has rubbed under my horses chin and bottom of nose but that is subsiding now. I had to make the hole bigger becasue it cover the tip of his nose not his actual mouth. I am considering a getting a different make but he is not a fan of the muzzle anyway and has only had it on 2 weeks and I feel if I change it now it will make him more unhappy. Any advise would be gratfully received.

Ive got the mark todd comfort one and its working well so far.. not rubbing my thin skinned TB either..

I've got the new design of Greenguard my greedy highland has not managed to move it to one side or get it off, but she did with the old style one. She's been wearng it for about 8 weeks (not constantly!) and I'm very pleased with the results.

I agree with threeponies. I have the new style Greenguard with the Greenguard headcollar and he can't escape from it at all. For anyone who hasn't seen it, the muzzle is more of a bucket shape, so no open corners unlike the old style one. Much better design and more effective. He hasn't managed to rub himself either with the GG headcollar. I really can recommend it.
