Hi can anyone advise me on grazing muzzles please? I need to get one for my mare for the first time and have no idea what make/size to get. I've been trialing a HY cob size on her which seems to fit her okay but looks like it could rub after a while, and the eating whole is really small. I quite like the look of the new shires deluxe with the fleece nose and i've read good things about them but don't know about size.... She's a 15.2hh thoroughbred type with a very small head. She has a cob sized bridle and headcollar, though some cob sized headcollars i have to use on the last hole as they come up a bit sloppy on her. I've read you should go up a size with shires - but worried a full sized muzzle would be too big and not work properly. Any advice please?

I have a welsh section D and she is a typical 'cob' size, I used a bucket muzzle last year and it rubbed a little, this year I bought the Shires deluxe 'cob' and its a much more generous size, cut away under the chin, well padded and fits really really well with no rubs whatsover, she wears it all day every day. With the shires I would say they are a little generous and wouldnt go up a size. Hope this helps.

Have tried best friend and shires muzzle but found they rubbed so much had to alternate days she could wear it. This year tried dinky muzzle and hasn't rubbed at all so she wears all night and comes in during day. Have xl size for my cob but is on smallest adjustment.

Bought a dinky muzzle for the first time this year for our pony. Bought Large and she is 12.2 as I think she is in between medium and large. This fits her really good. Did a couple of tries so she could understand that she could still eat with it on. The first time she stood in the field not moving at all and sort of waiting for me to come back and remove it.
The holes are more on the sides. And there is more room for breathing, I reckon. Really please with the dinky muzzle and she goes out with no problems, no rubbing.
I reckon that whatever brand/type you get, make sure it fits properly and start slowly to prevent rubbing.
xx

My boy's in a Dinky Rugs muzzle too and it's the first one that I've used that he's actually kept on! It's not tight, it doesn't rub, it's lightweight and padded and while it's limiting the amount he can gorge, he isn't objecting to it at all.

He wears it overnight then comes in during the day.

I have just bought the shires deluxe muzzle with sheepskin on it.

Prior to that I was borrowing a shire normal one from a friend and it was full size - pony takes a cob size bridle but has quite a wide nose and that fit well and he did not manage to take it off. However the full size deluxe muzzle looks bigger than the full size normal one so I am not sure if they have changed the sizing with the new versions of the muzzle and I am not convinced that it is will stay on so well as the older version though it definately is more soft and comfy looking.

The headpiece of the muzzle can be adjusted a lot more than a headcollar could be but the muzzle part obviously can't.

The hole in the shires muzzle is still very small though.

I use a cob size on my 14hh New Forest x cob although I did make the hole in the bottom a bit bigger as it was so small! I used the shires normal one which rubbed but now use the new Shires deluxe one and it doesn't rub at all. Great muzzle!

Thank you all for your advice. I have ordered the shires deluxe so will see how i get on with it. :)
