Well vets been out and he said ive got to get weight of him, better off out with muzzle on so he can move around, hes not going to be very impressed with that but what can you do its for his own good :-/
So i need to buy one tomorrow but there are so many to choose from..:-/
The greengaurd one i think is usless so wont be getting one of them :-)

I think I have the Roma one and so far no rubs, sores and not managed to get it off after a month now...

Agree - greenguards are rubbish!

shires are good :) BUT I have to attach it to a fieldsafe headcollar, or he'll just get it straight off.

GG - I have the headcollar and 3 sizes of muzzles - got the whole lot off with one rub on a fence post. Will be on ebay soon.......;)

shires one has rubbed my horses face to shreds after 2 nights wearing it so i cant use it anymore and had had to work her harder instead to keep weight off. It also did the same to another horse at the same yard who used same make. Saying that though I used it on her in autumn just for 6-8 hours intstead of 12-14 and its didnt rub her as much as this.

The new GreenGuard muzzles are a lot "boxier" than before. My boy is in one and I'm chuffed to pieces with it. He is a rug wrecker, chewer, wriggly worm but has only managed to slip out of it once. Needless to say he's lost the top leather strap it came with but a bit of baler twine does the job just as well (much to his despair). It just seems much more airy and less restrictive than others. Thumbs up for GG.

I've got the dinky pony 1 for my mare shes been wearing it about 8 weeks and has not rubbed at all. They do sizes for larger horses too.

Agree on the dinky rugs muzzle. I had one on my mini all summer and it never rubbed. And they do them to fit up to 17.2hh

I have used three roma muzzles.

First one was found in the field completely destroyed.

Second one, rubbed to begin with. Her skin 'toughened up' and it was worn all summer. The rubber base of the muzzle had completely worn down and the hole is now huge so she can get to too much grass.

Third one, my current one, is rubbing her left, right and centre (literally) however she has no choice but to wear it or she cannot be turned out.

They do the job but can't say I'd particularly recommend them as my horse has been rubbed in all of them!
