Hello,

I need grazing muzzle recommendations for pony as I had a warning from the farrier today that he is too fat :(. I knew he was overweight but his exercise regime has just increased now we are mastering hacking alone, unfortunately until this starts to take effect he will need to be on a very strict diet. What muzzles have people used and found good? Also how long did yours wear the muzzle for etc?

Cheers

Both of our ponies wear basket grazing muzzles when they are out during the night. They come in off the grass during the day. The fell is in a shires one and Baby is in Roma one.

We've found them to be really good, however both of us needed to go up a size. Both ponies wear cob headcollars/bridles but needed the full sized muzzle to be comfortable. The cob ones rubbed, but once we went up a size they've not rubbed at all and are really effective. :)

I have to confess I have given up with my boy and grazing muzzles - he has got rid of a bucket type and a shires comfort type. I now let him graze at night, and put him on a poor grazing field during the day.

I also found that both types rubbed his schnoz and was really disappointed at how them.

Rant over, sorry. sm x

i have the shires comfort one for taz and it works a treat have had no rubs as it is big enough round his muzzle and he has plenty of room, my 11hh pony is in a roma one, just a pony size and that is slightly to big on her but it stops it from rubbing, and both are only like £15. you can get green gaurd grazing muzzles but when i bought my too the ones they have i looked at the green gaurd ones and got told that if your horse hasnt worn one before it could rub and cause blisters because of the fact that they are solid and not flexible like the roma and shires one, but if you go for the roma one the pink on is the most flexible strange that they arent all the same but i found when i went to the shop there was a big difference. sorry its so long.

Thanks guys. I have a shires one which someone gave me. tried it on him this morning and it seems to fit (pony didn't look impressed at all). I'm going to try him in it this weekend when I can watch him and make sure he's not in a taffle!
