Grazing muzzle recommendations

I’ve never had to use one before so if anyone could recommend a good one for comfort/drinkability etc?

How long do they wear them for?

I cannot tape off field as it jumps out of anything or goes through electric.
It is being turned away for winter so no stabling etc.
 
I’ve used dinkys (v soft but he learned to eat through them) and shires deluxe on a very rubable ginger (I had to attach some fleece to the bit that joins noseband and throat lash and remove the headpiece padding on tbe shires)

Greenguard are less restrictive/they don’t have to learn how to use them but they can be abrasive to teeth
 
I'm currently using the one created by a forum member I can't remember the exact name of the muzzle but if you search Google/Facebook for Doncaster Plastics you'll find it.

I have it attached to an old leather headcollar and stays put he's was out about 14/15 hrs in it no problem and he's very playful with the other horses

It was me. I had many different muzzles and they all had issues. I told my new boyfriend how exasperating it was, and he only went and designed/made one 🥳

That was totally unexpected as, although I knew he had a factory, I also knew the main production was industrial tanks etc so wasn't expecting a grazing muzzle to arrive shortly after the conversation! He now does hay soakers, mounting blocks, field troughs, wheel arch covers for horseboxes, devices to reinforce cheaply done post and rail fences... He sees a need and designs a product to fit. He'd not 'done' horses before.

My 2 muzzles have lasted really well. They seem comfortable, once fitted. Rigs is a houdini and has broken a few zip ties (they break at 8kg) but the muzzle stands strong even with one of the arms loose. They've worn them 12 hours a day through summer. Rigs has seasonal asthma, which totally cleared up once he was on this muzzle. I think it's because the hard plastic is made from potable material, as in food grade, and it doesn't harbour bacteria/fungus in the way that some other muzzles did. Also, it has more airflow. The vet had thought it was a summer pollen, and Rigs was already on an inhaler, with antihistimines and Ventipulmin as a back-up, he now has nothing!

He's made a hay dispenser for when we're out and, if the summer had been hot, Rigs had a sun shade sail ready to go. I can't keep up with all the stuff that arrives to fill a need I hadn't even realised I had!!! Yesterday was a protector for the newl post on the new oak staircase so doggos don't have to be crated. I didn't trust them with the new, immaculate and very expensive wood 🤣
 
I really liked the greenguard, breathable, light, easy to eat/drink with, it has never broken and I've seen him stamp on it if he manges to pull it into his stable HOWEVER it did wear down my boys front teeth after a couple of years. That being said I know other horses that have used the same muzzle for much longer and have never had any wear.
Heard good things about the flexible filly one too but never tried it myself.
 
I tried several with my greedy clever mare. She removed the Shire one, she found a way to eat through the side of the Flexible Filly. The latest one is the Zephyr, which fits on any field safe headcollar. So far it's been very good, nice and open at the nostrils and fits well without rubbing. Very reasonable too. And she keeps it on, and she can't eat round it, so very happy.

Crikey! Chewed through it where? Am surprised at that. The import duty is a pain though. There wasn’t any when I bought mine. Another Brexshit bonus 😡
