My horse has had a grazing muzzle on for 3 days and I have been looking out for rubs. So far she has a bit of a scabby lip but cant do much about that and also she has a bald patch near her ear where the head/cheek strap is rubbing (cant remember exactly where it is or whats rubbing!) Its not sore yet but I dont want it getting that way and wondered what quick fix I can do in the morning and also what the long term solution is - fleece cheekpieces?

I have thought about sticking a fleece sock over it until I can come up with a more permanent solution? The only other stuff I have is cotton wool, softban and vetrap oh and some electrical tape!

Its not tight so not sure why its rubbing - or maybe its too loose?

What grazing muzzle do you have?

I have the greenguard one with the halter. When she first wore it she had a rub on her chin but I kept putting sudacreme on it and then her chin must have hardened up :) Other than that first rub she has been fine. The only thing I can think of is to buy those fleece car things that go over the seatbelts and try and do something with those.

maybe this is rude????but isnt it kinda mean to put agrass muzzle on a horse in a field full of grass.its like putting a delicous plate of food in front of u then saying u cant eat it....

I agree with your sheepskin idea. Something like this would be great (if the rubs are caused by the headcollar that the muzzle is attached to and not the muzzle itself).

yeah maybe but better than being a dead horse or being locked up in a stable - at least she can go out all day with her friends and she seems happy enough - she is managing to eat enough with it and is definitely much happier than she was the other night with belly ache. Its only until its been munched down by the others then she will be free to eat. Also she gets an hour of grazing with no mask then ad lib hay at night!

Its a shires mask
