We had to muzzle our *angelic* section b cos she keeps jumping the fences to get to grass, bought the shires one and it is rubbing her under the chin, any ideas what I can put under there to stop it??
Use sheepskin noseband covers on the headcollar, thats what I use for my horse, one on the nose and one under the chin, use the velcro ones and cut slots out for the muzzle straps.
All the neds I know who wear muzzles get rubbed by them - check the cheek straps and under the headpiece as well. You could try lining the mask with moleskin (used to prevent blisters in walking boots) or even something really smooth and slippery such as plastic tape. You need to harden the skin that is being rubbed, so if you pony comes in at night try a little salt water, and gradually increase the salt content over several days, or it will sting like mad if you use too much at first.
we used the greengaurd one and it rubbed like mad, the only thing that cured it was airconditioning pipe insulation i spotted lying at work after we had the office done out!
I split one side, pushed it over the strap and glued it - worked a treat till she managed to loose it altogether in the field - still suspect she burried it!
ive a few m left over so Im happy to post you some to try - free gratis! PM me if you want it
it's the end of the 'bucket' thats rubbing her - there's nothing really there that I can attach sheepskin to but will take it apart later when I bring her in for further investigation.
Sodding typical though - you solve one problem.......
My pony got rubbed by hers first time she wore one. Had to take it off for a time while they healed. Don't worry. Once healed, the skin is tougher and rubs don't come back. I tried all sorts. Advise you don't put on anything like fleece, but did get these which work a treat:
I have a shires one and had the same problem. Bought some fake sheepskin (£1.25) from fabric shop, cut it to size and fabric glued it in. Seems to have stopped the problem.
I also had enough left over to make a girth sleeve!
