Grazing muzzle sores

Having finally got my horse to master a grazing muzzle, he now has a red raw chin from where it has rubbed the skin away overnight. Ouch

It's a webbed "nose bag" type of muzzle (?Shires). Have others had this happen? And any suggestions please?

yes, happened to my mare in a BestFriend grazing muzzle, very annoying. umm, rub vaseline over the areas, line the muzzle with sheepskin perhaps?

We bought a real sheepskin nose band cut it in half and velcro'd it down the cheek pieces as this is where ours rubbed. It stays on for 12hrs a day without any problems at all now!

The sores are on the chin - two red patches the size of a 2p.

I shall have to leave the muzzle off for a week or so until they heal.

I left the muzzle off for a while, treated with sudocrem then put the muzzle back on with padding inside.

I was unbelieveably cruel, I treated them with surgical spirit and they cleared up in no time and haven't come back.

my pony has the sores on her face and chin from her new muzzle so she has not been wearing it and only been going out for max 4 hours a day. I need to get some sheepskin at the wkend!!
