I have had to put my ponies in some really long grass after my normal field has been sprayed for a couple of weeks. I have a welsh section A who has started putting on weight at a fairly rapid rate and I am worried now I've put her in there as it is over her head almost!

My field was tired and weedy and lots of tufty patches so I don't think the grass was TOO good. The grass in this field is almost above her head, they're sectioned off obviously.

Are the greenguard grazing muzzles better or the webbing type ones?

Will she actually be able to eat since its long grass and not short bits that will come up through the muzzle? Maybe I should let them eat it down first?

long grass or short, if they're natives they will find a way. I would be more worried about them getting the muzzle off tbh, how often are they checked-could they feasibly get the muzzle off for several hours before being checked again (I have horses at home and work FT, so its an issue for me).

Only ever used the webbing ones, but my fat girly always manage to get enough through it on short or long grass. Though she did give them plently of stick and was always making the holes bigger!

yes my horse extends the holes as well, and manages long or short grass, think he actually finds the short grass harder.

I have a greenguard one, have had it a few years and my mare gets on fine with it, long or short grass. I do find it rubs a bit at the back though, so have lined it with a bit of fleece.

Oh good glad she will be able to nibble! I think the greenguard one looks good as has the extra strap down the face, she gets a headcollar off pretty easily mainly because her head is so small so the throatlash strap is loose. She is a sensitive wee thing though so will defo be adding extra padded bits :-)
