grazing muzzles

The Fieldguard ones have the best reviews among the affordable ones (I trawled all the posts recently). Ive only ever left them on for 12 hours but thats included night time sessions, would need checking twice in 24 hours but thats normal checking anyway.

She never got it off, and she is sneaky clever pony girl and the only prob I had was that she didnt really drink much in it, just hung on until I brought her into stable, but I think most adapt better than that! The quality was very good and they are velcro fastening so in theory at least should come off in extreme circumstances (tho cant be sure).

Among the expensive ones, Best Friend is the best and Shires one is kind of a copy of that but apparently come up very small!

I'm not sure what make mine was but I'll check - I'll have to fish it out of the bin. My cob deftly removed it and trashed it.

I have Shires and they have been on 24/7 for the last few weeks, checked twice a day, removed, cleaned and put back on. Just started taking 2 of them off at night but the others are staying on for the moment. I can't believe the amount of grass that mine eat in them to be honest.....

I don't find they come up small at all, they are almost identical to the Best Friends ones but half the price £15 in most tackshops.

If you can grin and bear the initial rubbing and sore patches, the skin soon toughens up and heals, some quicker than others thou.

Have a Shires and a Greenguard grazing muzzle, but tend to use the shires one as the GG one doesn't restrict the grazing enough (IMO - but guess that depends on your grazing). I have left it on 24hrs with no issues (but checked at least twice).

I tried a GG one but George just seemed to eat around it and I don't like the idea that the headcollar isn't field safe, so he has a shires one and it is a size to big in the hope it doesn't rub too much (which it hasn't). He wears it all day in the field.

I'm a wuss and removed my ponies Shires one after 2 days. She only had it on for a couple of hours a day and it rubbed her raw. Horrible thing. She's doing just fine on restricted grazing...

I prefer the best friend because its much deeper than the shires. More expensive but Daisy could get the shires off in about 30secs. too intelligent by half...

Greenguard have now modified their muzzles so that it is more of a box at the bottom, my Irish horse, who doesn't know when to stop has his one on when he is out so thats 24/7 during the summer and I put a velcroed sheepskin cover on the noseband of his headcollar to stop it rubbing and this is the only way I can stop him eating too muchy and getting too fat. I know they are expensive and one normally lasts around 18 months but I swear by them, he wears it during the winter as well when he is out.
