grazing muzzles..

I tried muzzle on again today and cut some bits of webbing off as suggested.
But he was still snorting as soon as put on and am now wondering if muzzle is too small for his nose? it's cob size but he does have quite a large head so any ideas how you can tell if too small?

My mare has a muzzle and hers is a full size one, cob size was too fitting around her nose and she seemed as though she struggled to breathe. I worked on the fact that it needs to be quite freely moveable and a little loose around the nose area. Shes 16.1 so quite a big girl.

My gelding has a cob sized head collar, but the cob sized muzzle resulted in heavy breathing and sniffing. It wasn't wide enough so we got the full size one instead

You could see if you could borrow someones full muzzle for a night to see if it is the size or if its just because he has the muzzle on. I found that with the muzzles I had to go up a size as she's a cob in head collar, but a full muzzle as the cob gave her nose bleeds when she had it on.
