Do you use them and if so how long did it take your horse to get used to it. After trying restricted grazing my mare is still overweight so have purchased a muzzle but she is totally miserable with it on, she just can`t seem to get that she can eat with it on. She just stands by the gate and l am worried if she is not eating all day it will not be good for her. She has had it on for a couple of days now and there is still no sign of her getting used to it.
 
have you tried giving her something to eat through the hole so she can get the idea that she can stil eat with it on? also have you left the muzzle on for the whole day as well as i would personally do the above and gradually build up the time that they are wearing so they can get used to it.
 
Mine was happy straight away in his green guard. Its rubbed his chin bald but that's the only complaint so far.
 
Mine won't take to the bucket style but iv got 2 happy in greenguards BUT they are getting a stupid price for what they are. Just ordered another one and £52 !!!
 
Iv got mine in a dinky rugs one - designed for shetties but they go up to full sized, they have holes round the nostrils which i lke more than the bucket ones as better ventilation.

Ive put mine on gradually and she worked it out pretty quick.

The grass has to be long enough for them to eat through the muzzle - its no good putting it on her on a piece that shes stripped already!!!
 
we have 4 here with grazing muzzles mostly lack of grass in take but also to reduce laminitis.
we use dinky ones as they are softer. They get used to them in the end.

One of mine the owner put it on for 1/2 hr then the next day, yesterday she had it on full time.
 
Iv just started using one on my mare, little companion pony needsa the grass but she doesnt...so when they get let out of the fatty paddock into big field she has her muzzle on.
She protested and cantered round the field at first , quite helpful actually because she wouldnt eat and was charging around :D :D
I must admit I made the hole slightly bigger so she would eat , I watch her getting a few strands through so Im happy enough.
I havent left her with it on for a long period yet, only an hour or 2, but Im sure shed be fine :)
 
My horse never got on with his- he had the green guard one. Tried grazing in hand and feeding grass inside it and he just got really annoyed with it- he would try and rub it off on me when I lead him and I ended up with huge scratches on my arms (greenguard ones may be nice and smooth for the horse on the inside but the outside is really rough!) we gave up when he came in really beaten up one day- think some of the other horses had been bullying him and he couldn't bite them to chase them off- he wouldn't kick them, he's too nice :(
