Loads of grass means fat cob. How did yours react to wearing a grazing muzzle? Any recommendations which one is best? Pink muzzle means sensitive nose, does yours rub?

Personally i loved mine having one until it came to brining it off him for winter was a nightmare as whenever it was off even if it was just half and hour he gorged himself on grass and colliced so staying clear this time and just working him more! But i used the muzzle by dinky rugs and found it fab also found the shires one pretty good

I use the greenguard one on my cob since he got laminitis in december and he eats quite happily in it doesn't rub him at all have tried the bucket ones but couldn't get him to eat with it on and also found it to get really sweaty as its so thick and enclosed

I also use the Greenguard one as mine panicked with shires one, but grazes fine in his Greenguard.

I havethe shires one and my mare moped around not trying to eat so I was scared to leave it on all the time. I did check she was able to drink (I can watch her out of the kitchen window) in the heat, but didn't want to starve her. Anyway our paddock has suddenly turned really lush so I put it on last night, took it off for her supper, put it straight back on again and did the same for breakfast, just watching her now and looks like she's got the hang of eating, but there's a lot of pawing of the ground going on! I have put a sheepskin noseband cover on theheadstrap so it doesn't rub her ears, I got a larger size so it wouldn't rub her nose.

I use a shires padded with sheepskin - damned things always rub. WHY can't a non rub muzzle be invented that also stays on ??? grrr

Shy doesn't go out without it x

I use the green guard muzzle with the halter, my girl has been wearing it for 3 years and its brilliant. At first it rubbed just under her chin and when she was brought in I put sudocreme on, after a couple of weeks when her chin had hardened we have had no rubs at all. She doesn't object to wearing it either.

Pony lives in greenguard 23 hours a day, not a rub on him and cob is in greenguard through the day and best friend at night. Cob got really rubbed nostrils for the first week during the nights in a best friend but I find slapping on a thick layer of sudocrem everynight seems to toughen up the skin and it's fine now. Other livery is in a shires and her nose is so sore and has a blister on her top lip where she is working the grass through the hole...depends on your horse's head shape and muzzle grazing technique:rolleyes:

I use vetwrap strategically placed in multiple points to cover rubbing parts.

My welsh D has just had to start wearing a muzzle following lami flare up, I got a Westgate comfort muzzle, she is absolutely fine in it, grazing/drinking no problem, only out for the day though, pink nose and no rubs.

Thanks everyone I'll go take a look at the ones recommended. Did yours panic when you first put it on or refuse to try and eat or drink?

mine has a greenguard one on a normal headcollar she does sulk in it but she just has to get on with it she drinks happily and she can eat a bit. she is a delicate flower (trak x) and i use vet wrap on all the bits that might rub but normaly very good. she has never panicked just sulked!

Mine is in a Shires one. She has only had it on for 3 weeks. It took her a few hours to learn to eat with it on and about an hour to realise she could still drink! it does rub her though, so I am going to try putting masking tape over the muzzle so it doesn't rub.

I use the apparently old Shires one on Molly - apparently they got enough 'feedback' (complaints) about rubbing they've changed them and boy does it rub. Hair was really rubbed raw on the underside of her jaw.
Now have put some bandages on it .

She didn't panic at first, just wandered around the field until she got it.Now shes not keen on it approaching her ,but I think thats due to the rubbing. I'm looking into a MuzzleMate.

Defo worth it though.

Definitely a green guard fan, used for years on lami prone Shetland with no troubles. I do suggest that you buy one bigger than you need as they will rub if too snug. They soon figure out how to use them and can still get enough grass through to satisfy them that they can still actually get something. If using with a normal (breakable/leather) head collar, advise fitting an extra strap down the front of the face so they can't flip the mask off. They don't tend to stress, if they're real piggies, they'll soon figure it out. Be tough, it's far better than seeing any horse suffer thro laminitis!!
