Grazing muzzles

Hi, I purchased a second hand Greenguard muzzle for my 14.1hh Connemara, but I can’t get my head around the fit, whatever I do, he just ends up eating from the side or the part which should be under his chin. The top section does not really bend around his nose either?

I have adjusted it a fair few times but nothing seems to work. Also been looking at the dinky muzzles (see below).

He lives out 24/7, so would have to come off over night, but I chose Greenguard over dinky simply down to more reviews on the Greenguard and seemed better design for when he drinks.

Any help will be appreciated, many thanks.
 
I've been using Dinky rugs muzzles in summer for years... In a 17hh warmblood and a Shetland.
Pros - cheap / lightweight / never rub / keep nostrils clear
Cons - the webbing does wear out eventually under the nose
 
hi, sorry can't help with greenguard but i have dinky muzzles for my 2 and they work very well. It might be worth persevering for a few days an hour or so at a time? good luck...
 
We could not get the greenguard to work for Shy at all, so sold the lot on ebay.

Unfortunately, the Dinky Muzzle - hmm - he ate through the webbing base in a week, and the customer service received was just shocking. Had high hopes for that one.

So now we stick with our Shires one, which I have padded out with fake sheepskin - works a treat. :)
 
The seller no longer knew the sizing but was 99% sure it was a cob which is what usually fits him. He can fit into a pony but a cob on the smaller holes usually fits better.

I will have a few more plays with it but just want to make sure it's right before the grass comes. He doesn't suffer lami but has a good belly on him so don't want to take any risks. Thanks for all the fast replies.
 
I bought a greenguard one a while back and was told that only the 'horse' size had one part not bent. Not sure if that's true but couldn't make it fit for love or money so took it back. I'm using. A shires with homemade padding too and he's perfectly happy in that.
 
Does anyone have any pictures of the dinky muzzle on? Think I will put the greenguard on preloved or ebay, it's definitely not in my good books after further attempts at adjusting.
 
I use the shires one like toffee said, with faux sheepskin attached to the edges. I find it work really well & doesn't cause rubs. Never used the greenguard one tho I'm afraid. Iv heard boxed reviews about it.
 
I couldn't get on with the shires muzzle either, although I am told that the newer version is better than the old version. He just rubbed his nose and pushed it to one side to eat.

The best muzzle I found so far for him was the shires bucket style one....but he won't tolerate any kind of muzzle now though :rolleyes: so he is in a smaller paddock ready for spring.
 
I use the Shires type too. I have put some fake sheepskin around it to stop the rubbing, although after a while it doens't rub anyway. It wasn't expensive to buy either. Didn't take her that long to get used too.

This was before the sheep skin was sewn in.

I bought a green guard one for my haffy, after 1 night he had blisters and bruises all over his mouth, I've returned back to my roma ones, the mini's don't seem to get rubs, my haffy does so I sewed sheepskin around the nose of it and its fine.
Haffy has to have little plaits to keep his on as he gets really cross and trys to roll it off, minis are fine with theirs
