Until recently I would never use anything other than a green guard muzzle, but two weeks or so ago Dyn broke her SECOND green guard in a year! Green guards are €95 or so and we can't keep buying new ones forever so upon recommendation we bought the new shires deluxe grazing muzzle (which he's been re-designed). I was a bit sceptical of them but I can honestly say that for just €24 they are really good!!

I recommend them to anyone!

Hi there,

I have also recently bought one of these for my horse, as he has recently been diagnosed with cushings so his grazing needs to be restricted.

It fits really well and he seems happy enough when I put it onto him, but he just cannot seem to get the hang of grazing with it on! I thought maybe the small hole in the muzzle wasn't big enough, so in desperation, I have cut three more holes in the base, but still he won't graze with it on.

I have also tried putting a few mints (sugar free!) on the ground to encourage him.

Did you have any trouble getting your horse to graze with the muzzle on? Any suggestions or hints very gratefully received!

I didn't have any problems, let her have a snuffle around, fed a few blades of grass through the hole and then stood back and watched for about half an hour and she seemed to get it. It is a lot easier for them to get the grass if it is fairly short. Good luck.

Also I made sure she knew how to drink with it on.

We used a grazing muzzle for the first time this year and went for the Shires deluxe - as far as grazing muzzles go it is really nice! Took our guy a few days to work out but now he has no problems x
