Mine wasn't clipped, or rugged. Lesson learnt!!! next year he can expect to be naked and rugged up to the eyeballs!

I have used a bottle (500ml ) of cider vinegar, to a 15 litre tub of warm water to dilute it, and used that as a rinse after shampoo. My old guy isn't clipped ( because he hate hate hates rugs with a passion, and I would rather keep him happy and warm, than clipped and rugged, even though its a PITA ! ) so each spring I wear an attractive boiler suit and attack him with a furminator, then the hose pipe, shampoo, fingers, hosepipe, shampoo, fingers, hosepipe, vinegar mix rinse, hosepipe.... and repeat x2 about 4 days apart, and fluffy "welsh B living wild on the moors " looking pony suddenly becomes sleek arab again.

Rubber curry comb used in circular motions on a dry coat, and then a good bath. Remember though, grease is a horses natural protection against the elements, so dont be too quick to try and eliminate it.

I use oil in my pony's mane for his sweet itch, to get rid of the build up I use Dermoline insecticidal shampoo
