My friend works at a horse sanctuary and is having a bit of a problem. She's asked me to post on her behalf:

Has anyone owned or had dealings with a horse that has had greasy leg before? We have a horse which had a very bad case of it and we are still struggling to clear it up months later even with vets help. If anyone has any tips or suggestions they would be very much appreciated.

Mine (grey) has had it all the time I have had him. Not much I can do. I just clean it with tea tree shampoo every few months and pick the grease off. Doesn't seem t bother him. Seems to get worse when it's wet. ANy ideas would be a big help!

I lather the legs with Muddy marvel Descab, wrap in cling film and leave on for 15 minutes or so. The scabs should then slide off, or brush off using a flannel or fingers for the more stubborn ones. Only doing as much as the horse tolerates in one go. Pat the legs dry with a clean towel and apply Muddy Marvel Barrier Cream.
I can usually clear it up in one session, but just reapplying MM barrier cream daily will help remove any stubborn scabs and protect compromised skin.
Make sure brushes or clothes are cleaned after use so as not to spread the infection.
