Great dane stage 3 kidney disease, what do I feed, please help

As above really, we have been given hill kd but I am reading articles that slate it.
What do you do:
I have read the literature, understand the process but you guys usually know best.

raw? Seems to contain less protein than most manufactured stuff and definately less sugar- which I guess are 2 things you need to avoid?

Hi there, It seems protein levels if higher quality are not the issue, but phosphorus levels need to be really low.
The literature is confusing and opinions differ.
Hence the question!

Follow your vets advice. Sorry but your animal is quite seriously ill, the veterinary knowledge behind the pathology of the condition is what is important and then a recommendation of what sort of food to go for. If you don't trust your vet, change. You could do serious damage by taking the advice of people who have no insight on your dogs condition.

Susie T, I have the vets recommended food, and she is happily changing over to that, my vet suggested supplementing with fresh food.
I disagree that people on here with dogs at the same stage of renal failure will have no insight into the disease and expect I could spot daft ideas and suggestions, I have already had a really useful answer suggesting a new drug my vet is now looking at. So that advice was at least valuable. As we are in Spain, we often find things here a little behind other areas of the europe and the USA. S thank you for your input but I value the opinions and experience of many of the people on this forum and if I can make her life any easier before I lose her, I intend to do so.
