I have always had Danes and they are, in my opinion the best breed in the world. Although I have also had a Dane x Doberman and he was EXCEPTIONAL. Would definitely have that mix again

yes they’re fairly short lived, but I don’t know how you could not have one simply for that reason. Mine have given me so much joy, and I wouldn’t change it for the world. You cannot be sad with a Dane around, it’s just not possible.

ETA I have lived in a mobile home with three Danes, and also at the time had a Renault Clio. They are so lazy they just sleep when in the house so no need for a mansion ?

One of my favourite breeds ever since I was a child and read Dick King-Smith’s the invisible dog, and then spent about five hours at discover dogs with them that same year to make sure none were in fact invisible. Don’t know if it’s just me being daft but I couldn’t cope with the short life spans. Dogs aren’t here long enough as it is but I can at least make my peace with them going off old bones, I’ve been destroyed losing my last two dogs in their prime.

They're really not that short when well bred and cared for, ours is 8.5 and in fine fettle even after cruciate surgery 15 months ago, my OH's previous one lived to at least 11.5 if not longer and there's an example in this thread of one that did fly ball (!) and lived to nearly 13. Obviously there are always exceptions and small dogs will always live longer than large dogs on average.
