Today i had one of those days where it makes you think about why you have a horse and how much I should be grateful for!
The girl I help, who helps me too, offered to give my horse hay and water this morning as they were in today so I had a relative lie in this morning unit 9:30 and then went to the feed merchants.
Got to the yard and decided to tidy up the rubbish clip that I did before christmas so I gave him a warm bath and rugged him up to the hilt to keep him warm and let him dry whilst I mucked out his bed. (please don't jump down my throat for bathing him in winter- it is mild enough, i kept him warm and it was neccessary, and he was indoors)
So, on I went with all the yard chores, water, hay etc and he was eventually dry so I clipped out all the tufts of hair i'd missed last time.
By now it was the middle of the afternoon and a few of us tacked up to go out on a hack. It is the first time i've hacked out since late summer so I was really looking forward to letting Mr D have a good blast and enjoy himself.
He was such a good boy. A bit on his toes to start but settled well and was a gentleman with the other horses.
We had a lovely gallop up the field and then he led the group for a nice canter along the next section. We swapped halfway to let someone else lead and he was perfect. Waited back and didn't fuss. On the way home I put him in front and despite the scarey hedge monsters he trotted out in front lovely. He normally isn't very happy about leading on the road as there are too many things to blow his brain but he was really good today. We got absolutely splattered with mud and cantered through lots of puddles behind the others and had a blast!
Got back to the yard and cleaned my tack and sorted my stuff out, came home with piles of 'yard' washing so that is in the machine now- hope my housemate doesn't notice!!
How was everyone elses horsey weekend?
