Not sure anyone will remember my 'farriers' post but basically my new boy had been naughty with the farrier and farrier had lost his temper, hit horse and refused to shoe. I have since found a new farrier on recommendation, he's much more patient and experienced with TB racehorses and takes time to get to know the horse first. For the first shoeing gelding had some Sedalin and was a bit naughty but farrier managed to shoe fronts and horse didn't get two upset bar his memories from the previous shoeing. Just had re-shod yesterday, didn't use sedalin as farrier arrived a bit early just had a bucket of coarse mix instead...what an improvement! Gelding stood there almost like a donkey, despite looking a little nervous at times (it's the nailing on he hates) the food seemed to work ten times better than the sedalin and of course, the farrier...what a difference a good farrier can make and this guy genuinely likes horses whereas the last one obviously didn't!!

Glad you found a good farrier...I had one once which did the same with my mare. She can be stubborn about lifting her feet and once reared slightly...hardly at all in fact...the farrier then grabbed the leader off me turned her and booted her in the stomach.... my mare groaned and I could tell she was extremely shocked by this...I asked the farrier to leave then and there. Luckily like yours she was fine with the next farrier and he was much more patience and easy going....

Yes the last farrier really scared my boy, he did the same thing, took the horse's rope and smacked him in the stomach with the hammer then continued to threaten him face on with the hammer in his hand. The horse actually got loose too and I had to run to shut the barn door otherwise he could have been loose on the road. I've since found out that the farrier is known for it and doesn't have a good reputation and I'm so glad to have found someone who understands TBs as I don't hink the last guy did, in fact I think they scared him as he was always running them down! And my mare who's the full bred TB is an absolute angel to shoe!!

doesnt deserve to be around horses then really does he...! thats horrible...my mare is a really laid back appaloosa 12.2hh so no matter what the breed they should be patient and take their time with all of them...
pleased yours is doing well...luckily my mare is as good as gold most of the time and was fine with the next farrier...but does make you see why horses get spooked with farrier and have loads of problems...!
