A wee update on Tess....
She is doing brilliantly, her hip bones don't jut out and you can't see her vertabrae, she just looks quite normal. She is settled and her personality is showing and she is actually acting like a puppy.
The only difficult things have been walking on the lead and being afraid of other dogs when on the lead. she can walk around the house and garden to heel with or without the lead but the minute we get outside she gets so excited so quickly that there is no way she can listen to me. We will get there but it is going to take time. It has been really difficult to take her out as she is quite strong and will leap and plunge.
I stumbled across this on the internet ....http://www.martingaleheadcollar.co.uk/

It arrived and i wasted no time taking her out to see if it would help even just a bit. well, it has transformed her, she doesn't even try to pull, she feels so light and it actually has kept her more calm due to it bringing her head down a bit. she is even a bit better when she sees another dog now, still barks but doesn't get so wound up and stops quite quickly.
I was amazed. Tess is the worst dog on the lead i have ever encountered and this has made such a huge difference.
I don't intend using it forever, the training will be ongoing til she walks nicely in her collar.
Just thought i would share in case anyone else is interested in it.

So pleased Tess is doing well, she is coming on leaps and bounds by the sound of it, and she is acting like a puppy, poor girl she probabley never had a puppyhood. Im sure because she dosnt pull in the martingale that has made you calmer and that has transfered to her. We needs pics:D

Thanks, yeah she is doing brill. she is very smart and quick, i like that in a dog, i have never had a thick dog, i couldn't have any of the breeds that are a bit dim. She makes me laugh so much, it is great to see her puppy side coming out. It is like she has gone from being a grown up to a puppy. she also no longer eats like someone is going to steal it. she will even walk off if she hears a noise and come back to it. I was just saying to kyle today that i fall in love with her a bit more every day. she is very affectionate and has a wee sweet smiley face. She is lying here just now and is making these cute wee grunty content noises. you would just love her. I still miss Cara terribly and there will never be another like her but this wee soul has put a smile on my face again. xxx

Im sure Cara approves and wouldnt want you to be sad, I always think you never love one more than another you just love them differently. Its lovely that she has the home she deserves and was previously denied but Im sure she was picked out for you some time ago. They are one of the most intelligent breeds and I thought Diesel was the exception being thick but Im starting to realise he has been hiding his light under a bushel.:D Perhaps he is a late developer but he has really surprised me at some of the things he has done lately.

I know, i just still can't believe she has gone. I totally agree, Tess is her own wee person and i don't compare them, really hard sometimes though. Poor diesel, i think he was just lulling you into a false sense of security. you better be on the ball now lol xx

they are the best type of headcollar imo, i have a few made to measure by SWAG (south west agility goods) :) Fab your girl is doing so well :)

Genius bit of kit arent they? Stops them dead in their tracks if they lurch forward!

definitely, that has been a big thing with us. she can be walking quite well then lunges forward so quickly. with this she can't. I have noticed a difference even without it now, she is getting the idea about walking beside me. as soon as it is on though it just seems to calm her down. she was getting herself so high that you had no chance of getting her to listen. do you have one? way better than the ones that lead from under the chin and digs into their nose or eye. x

Yeah had one for a while now- there is a girl on pet forums who makes them. Dex knows he cant do the lungey squealy thing very well whilst wearing one and- I get this

instead of having a whirling dervish around other dogs (there were about ten within 10m of him in this pic) I get this
