A really enjoyable lesson today with Sue McMahon, didn't do a test ride as had been too busy to learn it and it was really hot but Mr B went really nicely. I feel Sue really "gets" Mr B and she always gives me lots to do which suits his busy mind. He can get a bit onward bound in canter if it's left until later in the session but Sue introduces it early on and instead of anticipating it and getting a little bit silly, Mr B takes in all in his stride and we do the bulk of the trot work later in the session. Being an older horse, I feel the canter work helps to get him more supple and engaged earlier in the lesson. We worked on canter half pass, I'm struggling to keep my weight in the correct stirrup and we lose bend so that's my homework! I also suspect I look like Quasimodo but in the outdoor arena there are no mirrors! I can't recommend Sue highly enough, i'm sure I'm not the sort of rider she normally trains (old, stiff and a bit useless) but I always come home feeling very positive and feeling I've learned something as well as had a really enjoyable session. No pics because we went on our own!
