me and my big bloody mouth!

basically my mare has come up in massive hives over the past week and a half and someone has been going round asking when my horses ringworm will be cleared up!

saw said person tonight and reassured her my horse didnt have ringworm and it looks nothing like ringworm. to which point she said she'd never said a thing. I told it her it was contrary to what i heard at which point she stormed off saying the whole place is chinese whispers. she sat and hid in her car until i'd gone.

argh, why do some people have to be so sensitive?!?! Its distressing enough having to sort this urticaria out without people who dont have a clue what there on about saying stuff like that. Not that im bothered either way but mine are two of the best cared for horses on that yard and if it was ringworm i would have said in an instant to everyone.

I love my livery yard but sometimes it just makes me want to go 'arrrrgggggghhhhhhh!!!!'

rant over....needed to get that off my chest, thankyou!!!

Am I allowed to feel sorry for her :o?
She must've been pretty upset to have stayed in her car until you went.

I hate confrontation :(.

thats the thing though it wasnt confrontational! I was assuring her my horse doesnt have ringworm and off she flew. I feel sorry for her now but honestly Ive never seen anyone so senstitive!

That's assuming you're sure it was her that has made comments about ringworm. I have had the experience of certain people telling others I have said things or done things that have been completely fabricated and I can tell you it is not a nice feeling to be on the wrong end of it.

thats the sad thing though, it isnt a gossipy yard, its a lovely yard. But the thing is I DEFINATELY know it was said and so went to tell her what the situation really is and she flew off???? That said she is known for being hyper sensitive so the outcome would have probably been the same whichever way it was put.

oh well, im sure it'll all come out in the wash *sigh*

i recon she probs went to her car because she had been caught out for saying things and felt silly
A young girl on our yard told a few people jack had conjunctivitus and i ended up with one of the yard owners kicking off that i had not informed her or put a sign up when i explained it was uvitus and wasnt contagus she was fine with it i was told who had said it and asked why she had said this rumour and she said she hadnt said anything and got really annoyed and stormed off i was like hang on you made everyone think my horse was diseased and i feel bad ? lol
Dont worry im sure she will get over it :L

Im sure she'll get over it, I think she may be a bit embarrassed!

We have a thing at our yard where we all talk about each other.... not really, although we do a bit, I think its human nature. She shouldnt be making stuff up though.

As someone said she'll get over it ;) but if she didnt say it then she shouldnt feel the need to avoid you!! Theres a young girl at our yard whom iv had to confront about her saying garbage about my horse when he was pts, really annoyed me  she didnt speak to me for weeks haha Then there were rumours that my horse hoof fell off!!!!!!!!!!! People should really just learn to mind there own business and stay out of things they no nothing about. There was also a livery 3 years ago who's horse got ringworm, didnt tell anyone and it was still being turned out with all the horses. Needless to say nearly the whole yard got it, stupid bloody woman!!

Do you know what caused the hives?

Just interested as a couple in our yard came up with small lumps all over their bodies last week. Not itchy or sensitive and horses very well in themselves, only thing we could come up with was both had been recently wormed.

Sorry to hijack post!

I agree and am the same, if I have been told that someone has said something that is not true then I will confront this person. Better to have it out in the open rather than talk behind peoples backs.

Yes agree for a need to hijack the post - the hives (urticaria) thing, far more interesting......
Please tell more
I have a horse that came to me new last Summer and had it really bad for ages (linked to stress, mostly, I think) they did get worse after he had major surgery on his wind pipe.....We got to the bottom off for a while (inc Steroid) injection - then they came back with avengance - turning out would calm down for a bit - then back - a day off, back etc....Then we tried blood cell supplement and pink powders - that worked....Held our breath when he went on to racing nuts.....still OK, held our breath again, when he had an accident - a weeks box rest, change of diet again, but still OK - so maybe we have got to the bottom of his problem with the supplements.....worrying though - and urticaria looks NOTHING like ring worm!!!

Wait until someone tells another livery on YOUR yard that your horse has strangles and then tells a shop full of people!!
Happened to a friend. Turned out the horse had an allergy.
OP-Don't feel bad, seriously if you know it was her spreading the rumour then you had every right to pull her on it.

could well be the change intemperature, its gone very mild and muggy from quite cold before. Well, it has here anyway!

This is the thing, its a very small world rond here and I dont want everyone thinking she has ringworm! If she did, fair enough I would shout it from the rooftops!

The urticaria itself I guess *could* have been confused as early ringworm by a novice (which is what the woman in question is) as the lumps have developed into circular doughnut type shapes (and lots of other random shapes too!) However knowing a previous allergic reaction my horse has had (and the vet has seen her too!) this is definately an allergy.....

we've no idea whats caused it to be honest! no dietry changes, not washed her stuff in anything new, she looks super well and shiny and hasnt had any change to ger routine. The only thing we can think of is either shes eaten something wierd either randomly in a bale of hay (actually she gets very little hay, i mix with about 80% bagged haylage) or like someone else has said, the change in the weather.

for now her rugging has been cut back to lighterweight ones to see if that will help, shes big and well with a trace clip so will be fine and the lumps are fairly warm to touch!

The vet has said he'll only consider steroid injections if they start oozing (which in a week and a half havent) due to other implications of the injection.

so, its wait and see time.......im hoping it goes soon! shes fine in herself and wondering why everyone is peering at her but its mighty inconvienient as they are in her girth area too so shes had to stop work, just as we were getting prepped for competing after winter!

It's obviously the night for people being annoyed on yards tonight. Unfortunatly it was me anoyed tonight :( got my horse in early so the other girl could ride hers but she won't share the school so I had to wait around for nealy 2hours before getting on and she was in such a rush to ride early that she took over 45 mins to tack up leaving my poor boy standing on the yard bored. Oh and it's the second night in a row this has happened.

Nope it don't bother me :D how are you supposed to compete if you can't ride around other horses? I don't think getting the warm up to empty would go down to well. I was going to but she was in such a rush to get home!! That's why they had to come in early

The good old chinese whispers..hate them as not only does what was said changed the tone of how it was said also changes, so when you go to reassure the person you were told was worried about ringworm it goes wrong. I would now leave it, you were trying to let her know about your horse.
