Since I broke my back 2 yrs ago in a riding accident, riding just has not been the same for me on a psychological level. I have been unable to truly relax on a horse.

Well, I don't know if it was to do with the balmy weather this evening, but I was schooling Mickey, and my back was pain-free. I think not having the niggling pain must have triggered something in my brain because I then became nicely relaxed. I had a great session today. Loads of really positive work, working on my position, keeping a steady contact (I tend to fiddle with the reins when I get nervous), loads of canter work and lateral work. Finished up with a new trick for him - Walk to Canter transitions......

Good for you! I can't even imagine how it must feel for you to ride after a terrible accident. In the end though, if you're anything like me, it's impossible to stay out of the saddle. I bet it will get better and better from now on.

Thank you!! I think ups and downs are inevitable. But I do hope to keep this up - It is really horrible worrying every time you want to do what you love.....

It says a lot about you that you didn't give up, though... a lot of people would and you couldn't even blame them if they did, breaking your back sounds scary as hell. You've obviously come a long way, more power to you!

Brilliant well done! I cannot imagine how it must feel and if you are not pain free when you ride, that must be terrible. I am slowly coming out of the woods after 3 months of back problems and can honestly say I have never experienced pain like it...so you have been through a hell of a lot and had the bottle to get back on too...marvellous you should be very proud.

Thank you everyone. I think it's really a case of getting on with it. If I can't get on with it with some degree of confidence, it's probably better not to do it at all. I don't like to give up though, it's not in my stoical nature!!
