Great Yorkshire Show Qualifiers

For the showing you just enter (entries are all advance entries). For example the M&M ridden classes are HOYS qualifiers but you don't need to qualify for them in the first place.

Okay, well I'm having my first go at qualifying for HOYS this year, and I'm doing the Qualifier at Great Yorkshire Show, but I don't know if I need to qualify for that qualifier. Did that make any sense? Sorry! Thanks to both of you for your answers!

I'm trying to qualify for Riding Horse, but how early should I send my entry form off? Bearing in mind the entry forms aren't released until the end of March, and I know sometimes it's cancelled due to the typical Yorkshire weather! Thanks again!

I think unless you are a member of SHB(GB) (please correct me if I'm wrong) you will need to purchase a ticket to ride from them to enter the qualifier. then you submit this along with your GYS entry form and pay before the closing date for entries.

it doesn't matter when you enter but you won't be able to enter until after the schedules are released and after the closing date, so anytime between those.

I don't think its cancelled that often. two years ago it did but we had a pretty horrific summer of wetness and last year it was absolutely scorching hot - from what I gather its either raining or very hot - there never seems to be an inbetween!

If you want to enter then send your form off as soon as they are released and take a punt on the weather. I had to withdraw my mare last year because of the rain, but classes were cancelled after the Tuesday anyway.

Hi I expect you have this under control but just in case you don't - the riding horse HOYS classes are run by the British Show horse Association and you have to a member and the horse a member to do qualifiers. You can get day tickets but not for qualifiers. You have to pay an additional £15 on your membership and tick that you want to do be eligible to do HOYS qualifiers. I think there is also possibly another HOYS registration/entry form in addition to the show one - I know I got some email the other day from HOYS about a new system and having been allocated a competitor registration number or something. Haven't read it that closely as number 1 show horse retired and number 2 up and coming show horse only doing novice classes at present.

I have never had an entry sent back for a showing class because the class is full although the closing dates will be that an big shows do not generally accept late entries.

Good luck. Never done Great Yorkshire as a long way from us.

Ahhhh the hallowed Great Yorkshire Showground is one of my favourite shows of the year..! Yes,..last year was pretty damn hot and in 2012 it got cancelled part way through it was that bad underfoot/wet.

I'll be there again this year. Staying with a pal over in Leeds and going from her house for the Tues & Weds days...

echo humble pie, you will need to be a full member of BSHA and have a height certificate for the small riding horses. Height cert is £81 and memberships you are probably looking around another £100

You maybe better going for the seib search for a star qualifiers instead
