O.k, just a random opinion post, out of sheer curiosity, who do you experts consider to be the greatest jumping sires of all time? They can be dead or alive. You can have a top three as it's hard to choose

You see all these adverts advertising foals by different stallions, but which are the best ones? I want to know, don't ask me why!

What's your opinion on Pilot? He may not have sired as many as some of the above, but there's always been something I've liked about his offspring and he seems to be in a fair few pedigrees here...

Deep Run - so if anyone knows of any of his mares still alive - pass them our way PLEASE! (Bet most of you have never heard of him have you?)

[/ QUOTE ]

There are still quite a few of his older mares about arent there? Of course we have heard of him, he has sired so many horses, how many Deep Run X supreme Leader horses are there ?!!

Arko III is a great jumper, but he is still almost totally unproven as a sire. That may well change in the future as he goes into retirement and starts selling a lot of coverings in Europe, where he'll get some superb mares.

Have to agree completely with Ken -- all the others really come from them, and if any of you have read The International Warmblood Horse you would see how often those names came up across all breeds whilst we were writing it.

I also could not believe that:

1 Anyone would put anything other than Ramiro Z,and Alme at the top of the list
2 Marius would even be mentioned (where on earth did that come from?)

Or perhaps let's not even get into that argument :-)

I am no expert but over here

How could we not mention the great King of Diamonds, Cavalier Royale and Clover Hill - I love Clover Hill horses as they have a look about them.

It's funny, those Irish sires do get forgotten, I guess that's how far from current thinking they are. The Irish have lost their way dreadfully in the last twenty years.

I think Cavalier Royale has a place in modern legends, but you were never really sure that the offspring were really his as there was also a Cavalier standing at the same time.

The problem with the other two is that they haven't created a dynasty in the same way as a number of those listed above. By that I mean, where are the truly great breeding offspring from them?

I would have to point out that you have forgotten the great Grannus one of my all time favourites and no one has mentioned him

I also would include :-

Ramiro Z
Alme Z
Gotthard
Wendekreis
Cor De La Bryere
Furioso
Capitol I
Landgraf

Love them all

Edited to add Marco Polo, he really deserves a mention

Well if anyone has a Deep Run mare of a viable breeding age, do let us know.
