Green guard muzzle

I've been told to restrict my horses grazing by bringing him in a few hours a day and strip graze as he's border line laminitic.
Bringing in is difficult as he is super stressy and needs to be with the other 3 he's turned out with- meaning they all need to come in or I have my stables smashed to bits. He also has an arthritic knee which seizes up in hours if he's in.
So I figure a muzzle? Hate bucket ones and wouldn't inflict that on the poor thing but what about green guards?
Are they fairly secure once on?
Any good suggestions for best priced stockists?
 
Best price...ebay. I bought one at the beginning of the summer and had mixed success. Difficult to get it fitted properly, I found the attachment straps too long and also quite fiddly. My boy found a way of pushing it to one side and eating around it. It also rubbed the end of his nose a bit. I had to resort to a shires bucket one in the end, but went back to the Greenguard when it got hot, as it seems much more airy.
 
I have tried every type of muzzle going and what I found the best was my own hybrid version. So... Buy the Greenguard head collar with the strap that comes down the face, now buy a shires bucket muzzle. Cut the straps off the bucket muzzle and attach the bucket to the four/five points available on the Greenguard head collar! Voila best muzzle ever. I did cut a strip out of the bucket to make it more airy too.

Thing is, what do you attach the bucket to head collar with? Because I had bought the whole Greenguard kit I also had their muzzle bit that comes with the leather straps, so I used the leather straps to feed through the bucket and attach to the head collar. This was an expensive way though! Baler twine might do, perhaps make the twine thinner so it will still snap if necessary?

Go STRAIGHT to the hybrid if you want to avoid weeks of him getting his Greenguard off! :)
 
I used greenguards on the pnoies and they never got them off. You do need to buy the proper headcollar and fit it sbugly. You can line it with sheepskin if it rubs.
 
I use the greenguard with mine, it doesn't rub with the greenguard headcollar. I have replaced broken straps with cable ties.
