Does anyone use these on their wonky dogs, my lab is 11 and has hip dysplasia, I have him on the Vetvit joint supplement but feel he needs a boost and find I am using Metacam a bit more frequently, I have heard both of the above are good just wanting to hear what folk think and what dosage is used

I have given two, or three, old bitches Glucosamine pills and Green Lipped Mussel capsules many years ago (all three are dead since over 5 years ago, so my memories about what I did and didn't do with them individually isn't as clear as it used to), anyhow, I could notice at least a small, positive difference after some days/a week or two, so I would definitely say that pills/capsules with Glucosamine and/or Green Lipped Mussel is worth a try.

But what I really can't recommend enough, is to try acupuncture treatments, if you have that possibility. It is definitely what helped the absolute most, and made the biggest difference, so if I had to choose and was only allowed to choose one thing, I would choose acupuncture treatments.

I have written about it before on HHO and I'm in a hurry, so I will just post these two links to threads that I've replied on, http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?623881-Accupuncture&highlight=acupuncture (reply number 20)

Good luck with whatever you try.

Green lipped mussel made a big difference to my HD dog. I got the human tablets from Simply Supplements (always two for one offer) and gave him two a day.

Chuck in a heaped teaspoon of turmeric too, it really helped a horse I know.

No experience with dogs on it but my friend put her elderly ricketty horse on green lipped mussel supplement on vet advice and its made a huge difference to her.
