I've recently started riding this pony, he's 13 years old and a Welsh B. He was started when he was 9 and he got taught everything (walk, trot and canter he could also go over some cross poles) but he got into a bad habit of bronking in canter so slowly everyone was to scared to ride him. Over the past couple of years he's been a 'lead-rein' pony and has been led around in walk and trot but not much else. The owner has asked if I can try and bring him back into work and attempt to stop his bronking habit. I've ridden him a couple of times and I have managed to sit his bronkes but I don't know whether that was more luck or skill! Has anyone had any experience in dealing with bronking ponies? Does anyone know why he might be doing this?
PLEASE NOTE: We have had him checked multiple times for any discomfort that might be causing his bronking and nothing has ever showed up. All his tack fits perfectly and isn't giving him any pain.
